13:00 - 14:00Memory as an art-object: cinema and brain research

13:00 - 14:00 Memory as an art-object: cinema and brain research

Format: open lecture

Lecturer: Konstantin Anokhin (neurobiologist, corresponding fellow at RAS, memory specialist)

Agenda:
We are our memory. The nature of memory, its defects and strange metamorphoses have been the topic of interest for film-makers since the era of silent cinema. In dozens of films, screenwriters and directors present various versions of what happens with a person with memory defects or who attempts to control memory – from deja-vu and loss of self and madness to super-abilities and genius insights. The science of memory explores the same issues. How complementary are these two modes of human perception? Which parts of fiction films about memory are pure fiction, and which find validation in modern brain research? Can fictional fantasy anticipate scientific discovery and be its guide? This lecture will look at these questions.

12:00 - 13:00 “Kolobok” show

Ruslan Wolfson's Little Theater.

Kolobok is a play that's part cartoon and part a circus performance. Puppet theater actor Ruslan Wolfson has come up with an unusual, almost unique system of making puppets come to life by using magnets, while his friend turned the famous tale into a poem. And so, the fairy tale we've known since childhood has gotten a new life. There is no search for hidden meaning here, nor an attempt to interpret folk wisdom in a new way. But there is humor, fantasy, theatrical discover and real excitement of making this seemingly simple story equally interesting for children and adults.

For children aged 3 and up.

Travel the world of sound with one of the most famous composers and creators of the 20th century John Cage. Experiment with Cage: listen to music made of silence, or everyday sounds, create unusual musical instruments. The master-class is a precursor to “Art-Experiment 2015. 32 questions by Cage” project.

“Art-experiment” is an annual interactive project hosted by “Garage” Modern Art Museum. Visitors of all ages attend the Art Experiment in order to better understand modern art and become a part of it, to create their own works and share the joy of creativity with close friends and with people they've only just met. In 2015, sound will be the hero of the Art Experiment.

The audience, along with artists, musicians, creative groups, performers and Moscow music schools students will get to spend two weeks of winter vacation searching for answers to the questions posed by famous American composer John Cage. Cage has proven that any sound can be musical, from dripping water to whispers, and it is up to each person to decide whether or not he hears the music in daily sounds.

You're given an essay assignment - “One morning you wake up and see that you've turned into an adult. You get scared and run into your parents room – but they've become kids! Make up the rest of the story.” It's one thing when the rest of the story happens in a dream – but very few could get out of this situation in real life. Kamo finds a way, will you?

17:20 - 18:20 Game Program “We are One”

State Darwin Museum
How great is the gap that separates man from animal? Most of us think that only humans possess intelligence. However, experiments have shown that our “lesser brothers” could compete if not with Einstein, then definitely with an average school student. In which subjects with humans always be smarter, and in which are animals almost our equals?

Darwin Museum offers the opportunity to:

– check how much you know about our smartest neighbors on the planet.

– try your hand at experiments that lab animals have succeeded in

– find out how well you read others' emotions

– train your hands and brains in a creative workshop

– draw one of the animals and become an artist at our express-exhibit, and so much more. Come visit us!
